From a luminous heart,
the Path of Light is revealed.

"Koshin Reiki School teaches a traditional style of Usui Shiki Ryoho passed down through Hawayo Takata to John Harvey Gray."

The Path of Koshin

Koshin Reiki (pron. Koh-shin Ray-key) is a Japanese Reiki lineage rooted in the early teachings of Hawayo Takata’s Usui Shiki Ryoho. The name Koshin emerged through a realization on Mount Kurama, expressing the light that purifies and awakens the heart-mind.

Koshin Reiki maintains a simple, clear approach to Reiki practice — grounded, steady, and true to the essence of the original system. The spirit of the practice is: place your hands, be present, and allow the luminous heart to open.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing practice that supports balance, relaxation, and wellbeing through gentle, hands-on contact.

The word Reiki refers to the subtle, natural energy that sustains all living things. This way of practice began with Mikao Usui in Japan in 1922 and has since been shared around the world.

Reiki is simple to learn, calming to receive, and deeply supportive for people in all stages of life, including those in periods of stress, recovery, or comfort care.

The Path of Koshin

Koshin Reiki is an international school based on the early teachings that Hawayo Takata received from her teacher Chujiro Hayashi in Japan in the 1930s, and later passed to John Gray between 1973 and 1977. She called her system Usui Shiki Ryoho. The name Koshin emerged 50 years later in a realization on Mount Kurama. It expresses the light that purifies and awakens the heart-mind, and distinguishes this school from others within the wide array of Usui Shiki Ryoho schools.
